Welcome to Math-E-Matics!!!

This will be a place for students in Mr. Tucker's Math Class.

Sometimes I will have an activity found here that is required. It will replace our traditional Mathbook assignment.

Geometry students please have #7 done by 1/25/10!

Assignment #1 Geometry.

goto http://library.thinkquest.org/2647/geometry/intro/proof.htm

1) Read the short article and then pick one of the eight proofs to read. 2) Return to Wiki and go to discussion, post your own definition of what you think a geometry proof is. Do not refer back to what you read, or reference anything but your own mind. Then you are done have a wonderful 3 day weekend!!!

Assignment #2 Geometry

goto http://www.shodor.org/interactivate/activities/Angles/

If the program does not run try taking off angles at the end of the above address and go to activities, choose angles. This activity looks a bit confusing, it is not, use the HELP, and LEARNER, tabs at the top as a guide. Do the activity until you get over 20 points, Monday we will have a quick quiz on angles. If you want a "cheat sheet" for the quiz, make one on the discussion board and I will print it at school. NO CUTTING AND PASTING!!

Assignment #3 Geometry.

An internet geometry treasure hunt, enjoy!!
goto http://mathbits.com/caching/geoopencache1.html

Assignment #4 Geometry.

The 21st Century Learner: a look at geometry.
Go to: http://www.gogeometry.com/center/nine_point_center_euler.html
In the box at the top of the page you will "page through" the construction we did with paper and pencil in class on Friday. To page through click on the next arrow at the bottom of the presentation.
This is a virtual, or some might say "digital" construction.

Come back to the Wiki. On the discussion page explained what you learned about the nine-point circle website and comment on one of your classmates explanations.

Assignment #5 Geometry

Hospital Problem
Boise, ID; Helena, MT; and Salt Lake City, UT
are three large cities in the northwestern part of
the United States. Although each city has a local
hospital for minor needs and emergencies, an
advanced medical facility is needed for
transplants, research, and so forth. Imagine the
potential of a high-powered, high-tech, extremely
modern medical center that could be shared by
the three cities and their surrounding
communities!
You have been hired to determine the best
location for this facility. Use map or the internet to
come up with a solution.

Then go to: http://illuminations.nctm.org/ActivityDetail.aspx?ID=156
Be prepared tomorrow to have a practical solution to the Hospital problem, and also reflect on
how the 21st century tool helped you come up with the best solution.

Geometry #6

Investigate two of these topics and share them on the discussion board, you must also include a source of where you are getting your ideas.
This source could be a web link, a conversation with a grandmother, a book, a journal. For example, if you decided you wanted to learn more about the quadratic formula, I would google, "proof of the quadratic formula", because I know you guys know the formula, but may not know why it works!! Remember the one big idea here, you must be able to teach the class a mathematical concept we do not know. Also, you MUST look at at least one other persons post for a project, and comment.

Geometry Project: Investigate a math concept: I have added a few

Assignment #7

21st Century Mathematics Project.
Decide what your topic will be. Find mathematics in your topic that you do not understand.
Post your topic and a link to the math you have found.
What is next:
1) I will help you sort through the math.
2) You will prepare a "21st century presentation" to teach us what you have learned.
